While I have always been interested in artsy games and enjoyed my fair share of them as well the thought that art games could be created through mods had never occurred to me. I have often looked to corruptions and things of the like as a way to consume the medium I have now been exposed to a whole new world through this discussion. Just as discussed in our reading and how the author says that, “In other words, contemporary artist-made game mods tend to approach either the visual design of the game (option 1) or the underlying game engine (option 3). Mods of actual gameplay (option 2) are less common, and in fact gameplay is often neglected to the point of disappearance in most artist game mods” (108) most artistic games are here due to the ability to mod the existing material. The author also goes on to discuss several types of modded artistic video games and films created with the purpose of conveying a message to the audience just like a traditional art piece. Bellow ill link the Project I found most compelling from the website.

I decided on the Do You Know Where Youre Going video from GAMESCENS. I decided on this particular video due to just how jarring and bizarre it was. When I was scrolling through the website I was immediately taken aback by the film and new it had to be the one I discussed. He describes his work on the project as a subversive tactics aimed at deconstructing and exposing the nonsense of the mechanisms governing politics and contemporary society, along with its fears and fetishes, provides a remarkable depiction the absurdity and grotesquery of human life. I believe he achieved his goal very well if that was his intended outcome. I find his work to relate to the readings section on Pleasure vs Unpleasure as his work on the subject was really unpleasurable for me at least and I think that was the intended goal. His use of Second life to create these works and his use of his alter ego SaveMe is very compelling, and I recommend everyone take a look at his work.

On a side note, I would also just like to talk about how games like Dream for Ps4 can also lend itself to this medium and games like VR Chat as well bellow I will link videos featuring these games.

Do you know where you’re going to?
